A little piece of meadow

… or how I made it.

I wanted to make this quilt inspired by my holiday picture below and from the notion of making myself familiar with free-hand quilting once more 🙂

The photo picture was just an inspiration and I didn’t want to make an exact copy of it.

I can describe making of this piece in few steps:

  1. Choosing fabrics for background and plants. This time I used batiks as background and flowers and some green fabrics scraps as grass. The filling was made of pressed polyester, could be the one with glue too. It’s perfect for small works as it keeps desired shape when quilting.
  2. Sewing on of several blades of grass somewhere deep in the meadow.
  3. Cutting and arranging of the flowers and another grass. To make it easier first I put a stiffener with glue on both sides on the fabric. After cutting the elements and composing them I ironed them on the background.
  4. Now it’s time for a sandwich and a fun of quilting – a bit of photo picture reconstruction and a bit of my imagination. I used a threads in several colors, including a shaded ones. My meadow is not very tidy but I wanted it to be that way. I added the border when finished the quilting.
  5. A final touch – I added few blades of grass (some even after making the border), and then I added a narrow edge in the color of the background.

There are also other descriptions of similar works: a goat and a rooster.

Size:  23 cm x 29 cm.

No i postanowiłam odnowić znajomość z maszyną 😉
